Classic Videos
The following are some of our favourite "Classic Videos" from the world of rock that we've found lurking on YouTube. Turn on, tune in and rock out:
Wolfsbane - I Like It Hot
Those brilliant Tamworth terrors Wolfsbane come nipping at your heels as they want to turn up the heat with the stomping "I Like It Hot" from 1989's "Live Fast, Die Fast" album. We'd like it hot hot as well....with milk and 2 sugars! Rush - The Trees
Never mind the tube strikes there's industrial action on the cards down in your local woodland!!! Those Canadian loggers Rush spread their roots with the brilliant 1978 track "The Trees" from their "Hemispheres" album. Rumour is that like true Canadian heroes, on Wednesdays they go shopping and have buttered scones for tea! Gillan - Sleeping On The Job
"Sleeping On The Job"?.....not flippin' likely with this glorious wall of sound tearing your speakers to shreds. Tremble in fear under your duvet with Gillan and one of their steaming singles from the classic line-up of Ian Gillan, Bernie Torme, John McCoy, Mick Underwood and Colin Towns. Black Oak Arkansas - Jim Dandy To The Rescue
Is it a bird, is it a plane, no, it's "Jim Dandy To The Rescue" that brilliant version by southern rockers Black Oak Arkansas with Ruby Starr. Not sure how big "Jim Dandy" is going to help out at an accident scene though - surely that suit doens't conform to High Viz standards and those long flowing locks and flapping tassles could easily get caught in moving machinery! The Doors - Break On Through (Live)
When The Doors reformed a few years ago, they had a bit of a problem - Jim Morrison was long dead and fans might have noticed as he would have had to mime to backing tapes (he may have smelt a bit as well!). To save the day, in stepped that Lil' Devil Ian Astbury of The Cult to carry out a pretty convincing impression. This live performance of "Break On Through" is from an edition of America's "The Late Late Show". Rainbow - Stargazer
A full spectrum of colour for a dull winters start to the new year with Rainbow. Yes we're all fans of Zippy, George and Bungle but this is the real thing, Cozy, Ritchie and Ronnie getting "up above the streets and houses" with the jaw dropping "Stargazer". Dogs D'amour - I Don't Want You To Go
A bit of drunken debauchery this month with those lovable Dogs D'amour and the heartbreaking rocker "I Don't Want You to Go" - Remember a dog is for life, not just for Christmas...... "down boy"! Scorpions - The Zoo (Live)
This time it's the turn of those Tutonic Monsters of Rock The Scorpions with a live performance of "The Zoo" from the Wacken festival in 2006. Vorsprung Rock Technique!!!!.... Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (Live)
With October being the month of scary pumpkins, a bit of Hammer Horror inspired Black Sabbath was in order, so it's a majestic version of the title track from their "Heaven and Hell" album performed live in New York in 1980 and featuring the late, great Ronnie James Dio. Tremble ye little children...... Mott The Hoople - Roll Away The Stone
Giant Wombles, Tony Blackburn and shoulder pads that would make Alexis Carrington wet herself with excitment! Get ready Pop Pickers, from a 1973 Top of The Pops it's Mott The Hoople with "Roll Away The Stone"....Sha-la-la-la-push-push..... The Yardbirds - Heart Full Of Stone
Can't afford a colour TV licence?....this is for you! From the early days of guitar driven British rock it's the Yardbirds with "Heart Full of Soul" from a 1965 "Shindig" show featuring a very young looking Jeff Beck. Van Halen - Runnin' With The Devil
Apparently Chris Packham of BBC Springwatch fame doesn't like Van Halen so this is especially for him, it's the monstrous Van Halen anthem "Runnin' With The Devil".......lock up your chaffinches!!! Rory Gallagher - Tattoo'd Lady (Live)
A bit of Irish magic from the stratocaster wizard Rory Gallagher. Filmed live in 1975 this is the brilliant "Tattoo'd Lady" filmed live in 1975: Judas Priest - Breaking The Law
Due to Rust guitarist Dave "DJ" Johnson visiting rehab after breaking his arm, we'll stick with the theme and this Classic Rock Video is therefore a live version of Judas Priest's immortal "Breaking The Law" - enjoy..... Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law
In tribute to DJ's broken arm we couldn't resist the awesome Saxon NWOBHM classic "Strong Arm of The Law" - Set your air guitars to stun..... Motorhead - Killed By Death (Live)
Here's the ever subtle Motorhead (and a few respectable "friends"!!!!) with an impeccable version of their much loved ballad "Killed By Death" live from the Wacken festival in 2009. Perfect for a sunny spring morning. Gary Moore - Empty Rooms
For obvious reasons it had to be a Gary Moore video following his death on 6th February 2011. This is the haunting single "Empty Rooms" from 1985's "Run For Cover" album. RIP....... Iron Maiden - The Trooper
Back in 1983 Iron Maiden were well on their way to world domination of the spandex and studs industry! To solidify their spot they released the classic gung-ho anthem "The Trooper" from the Piece of Mind album. Hold on to your hats..... New York Dolls - Personality Crisis
Just in time for the New Year it's The New York Dolls with their "Personality Crisis" - Our very own Dave "DJ" Johnson has one of these as he's never sure which platforms to wear! Whitesnake - Fool For Your Loving
A certain Mr David Coverdale of Whitesnake seduces the ladies with his silky tonsils on the original 1980 version of "Fool for Your Loving". This is the "proper" recording before he discovered MTV, widdly guitars and buxom lasses cavorting on top of his Jaguar! Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)
Time to get those lighters in the air (or should that be mobile phones these days?). This is Cinderella from 1990 with their classic power ballad "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)". Excuse me I feel a tear coming......uh, did you see the Bears last night? Budgie - Breadfan
Following the previous video we've been asked to include more "birds" on this website, so here's those brilliant Welsh wonders Budgie! This is the classic "Breadfan" from 1973 which you may also know from Metallica's cover of the track. Helix - Gimme, Gimme Good Lovin
If you have fond memories of the 1980's when spandex clad men strutted like real men do, with poodles on their heads, and women felt the strange urge to abandon their clothing at the sight of a motorbike you'll love this gem as Helix cover Crazy Elephant's classic "Gimme, Gimme Good Lovin". Slade - Mama Weer All Crazee Now
Get those bell bottomed loon pants on! - it's Slade with the classic and much covered "Mama Weer all Crazee Now". UFO - Rock Bottom (Live)
UFO tear through a rip-roaring version of "Rock Bottom" in 1973 in front of a bizarre German TV audience. Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
Vintage video from 1977 of Thin Lizzy ripping it up with the awesome "Bad Reputation". AC/DC - Thunderstruck (Live)
AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" Live from Donnington 1991 - what a show. |
